Meet Della Terry
In a world that can sometimes feel dull and uninspired, I believe everyone deserves to live in spaces that are warm, welcoming, and filled with beauty.
That belief took root early in my life. I lost my parents the week I turned 13 and moved in with my aunt and uncle in another city. Two years later we moved to another state and three years later I moved into my own apartment. Life went on and I did all the things. Got married, bought a house, got divorced, lived in an apartment. After I remarried, we moved across the state, then moved back. Throw in a few apartments and rental houses along the way, and you have a lot of starting over. However, the one thing that was always constant and always present were flowers. Floral fabrics, pillows, blankets, curtains, and wall hangings. Of course, there were always pots, tubs, baskets, and gardens full of flowers on the outside. We have lived on our little acreage for 14 years now and it is bursting with flowers, both inside and out.
I’ve been creative my whole life. The need to create is as essential to me as air. My paintings are freehanded and intuitive, using gouache and ink in a style that’s sometimes bold, sometimes soft—but always in bloom. Flowers are the only thing I want to paint because they resonate with me on such a deep level. You see, it didn’t matter how many times I started over, because flowers start over every year. Yet they show us that we can be positive, resilient, and beautiful time and time again. I love being surrounded by flowers, because they lift my spirit, ground me, and show me that is ok to be exactly who I am.
My hope is that my art lifts your spirit with vibrant color and soothes your soul like a slow walk through the garden.
